Place Details

Baltit Fort is in the Hunza valley, close to the town of Karimabad, in the Gilgit Baltistan district of northern Pakistan. Established in the eighth century CE, it has been on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative rundown starting around 2004. 

The Mirs of Hunza deserted the stronghold in 1945, and moved to another royal residence down the slope.
