The recreation area was laid out before the formation of Pakistan and covers an area of 313 sections of land (127 ha). It was named after the previous Leader of Pakistan Field Marshal Ayub Khan. It is the biggest park in the Islamabad-Rawalpindi metropolitan region and is professed to be one of the biggest in Asia.
